Upgraded Imoumlive 8 inch Mini Chainsaw

The Imoumlive 8 inch mini chainsaw is the bigger version of the very popular upgraded Imoumlive 6 inch chainsaw.

This updated 8 inch version takes all the good aspects of that mini chainsaw and adds increased power and a bigger 8 inch cutting surface.

This model is also compatible with the Imoumlive Extension Pole which can greatly improve the overall usefulness of this tool.

The one obvious difference between the 8-inch and 6-inch versions is the addition of a handle for the left hand on the upgraded 8 inch Imoumlive.

This has both positive and negative aspects which we will address further down this article. But first….

The Good Bits

Below are features of this chainsaw that would make it a good buy.

Brushless Motor

Upgraded Imoumlive Brushless Motor Claims

A brushless motor is a step up from the brushed electrical motor.

You can read more about the advantages of brushless electric chainsaws here and more about brushless electric motors in general HERE

In a nutshell, a brushless electric motor delivers power more efficiently (and quietly) and has a longer life span.

The Imoumlive supplied picture on the left offers a quick summary for you but it really should be game over for brushed electric motors in the world of battery driven chainsaws!

Two(2) Batteries

Having a spare battery readily available allows one to have one on charge while working with the other.

Unusually (for mini chainsaw batteries), the working time and charging time for these batteries are quite similar. So even if you flattened both of the batteries while working with this tool, the first one would almost be ready to go again when the second one was depleted.

Inbuilt Oiler

Every chainsaw bar and chain needs to be oiled to ensure maximum efficacy and longevity. Some mini chainsaw manufacturers will suggest otherwise, but these are the ones whose product usually doesn’t have an inbuilt oiler!!

Fortunately this Imoumlive mini saw has an inbuilt oiler which allows you to work without having to carry a little oil bottle around with you.

The normal warnings about oil leaks apply. i.e. don’t store it with the oil in the reservoir and be careful of putting too much oil in the reservoir when you work with it. This is because you will likely use the saw at odd angles (even upside down) when you are pruning plants or small branches.

Safety Switch

This should be a standard feature on all battery powered chainsaws. Unfortunately it isn’t always present on small mini chainsaws but this one has a safety switch.

As usual, the placement ignores the fact that there are left handed people in this world who use chainsaws!

C’est la vie!

Splash Guard

This feature is held in place by 2 screws and is designed to prevent wood chips from flying into your hands and arms.

Its a big improvement on the more common little piece of plastic that covers the top surface of many mini chainsaws. These usually have a tenuous attachment to the tool that often breaks, sometimes rendering the tool inoperable.

This design option is much better from that point of view. The good news is that you can leave it off or easily remove it if you want to.

Good or Bad Features?

 Splash Guard

Yes I know, we have just put this down as a positive feature.

However, it can also be a hindrance. By design, mini chainsaws are able to operate in small and tight spaces.

This is especially beneficial when pruning in dense foliage.

This splash guard substantially increases to overall size of the mini saw. In doing so it might prevent the tool being used in spaces it might otherwise have worked quite easily.

But as mentioned above, there is a solution if this becomes a problem. You can easily remove the guard by unscrewing 2 screws.

Just put them in a safe place in case you want to re-attach the guard further down the line!

Extra Handle

This Imoumlive chainsaw comes with a handle that you can attach (2 screws). The handle allows you to support the chainsaw with your left hand (or in fact right hand if you are left handed)

So in effect you can use this as a one handed saw (without the extra handle) or a two handed chainsaw (with handle attached).

This can be viewed as either a help or a hindrance!

From the help point of view, it makes an already small light chainsaw easier to handle and maneuver.

From the hindrance point of view, it makes the tool larger and less easy to use in small spaces or dense foliage.

Fortunately you have a choice as to whether you use the extra handle or not!

It also places this model outside the traditional one handed mini chainsaw market segment and puts it into competition with 10 inch and 12 inch cordless chainsaws.

The Carry Case

This Imoumlive comes in a neat carry case which is great news!

Except…..

It doesn’t fit back into the case when all the extra bits are attached to it! In other words, in its fully operational mode with splash guard and extra handle screwed on, you can’t store or carry it in the case provided.

The Other Bits

Chain Speed

One has to wonder about this, but according to Imoumlive, their 8-inch chainsaw has a chain speed of 18 feet/sec or 5.5 meters/sec!

Which is slower than that quoted for their 6-inch mini chainsaw!(which is 20ft/sec or 6m/sec)

Which is pretty average for an 8 inch chainsaw.

Having said that, chain speed is in some ways like the top speed your car can go. It might be impressive or average, but if the car is efficient and meets your everyday needs, then a pretty average top speed can perhaps be forgiven.

And Finally

The Imoumlive is a solid and welcome addition to the growing number of 8-inch brushless mini chainsaws
