A chainsaw bar grease gun may sound like a bit of overkill, but they are an invaluable, inexpensive tool.
The primary function of grease guns is to help you to grease the chainsaw bar, and thus reduce wear due to friction between the chainsaw bar and the chain.
This prolongs longevity of both the chainsaw bar as well as the chainsaw chain which runs around the bar.
Some of these greaser guns are designed specifically for chainsaws while others are designed more for general use but can be applied to, or have adapters for, using on chainsaws.

Now not all chainsaw bars have a small hole towards the end of the bar through which you can lubricate the sprocket in the nose. Generally though, the longer bars do have such a hole and its always good idea to lubricate that sprocket.

It is certainly up there because it gives you choices.You can either use refill cartridges (easiest) or manually refill with your choice of grease.
Some pointers from certified buyers:
– If you use a cartridge refill then you wont need the inner plastic plunger so pull that out!
– It would seem that sometimes there is no hole where the grease should come out of the gun. Easily fixed with a bit of rubbing with sand paper which will open the hole up.
– works well but certainly not meant for heavy usage due to it’s lightweight construction.
If this option seems a little complicated then the next two options are about as simple and straight forward as you can get. However, don’t be fooled – simplicity often delivers the best results!

Less of the same. What I am referring to here is the size of the grease gun. The oregon chainsaw grease gun weighs in at 1.6 ounces as opposed to the 4 ounces of the one above. Take your pick depending on how hard you work your chainsaw (or how many you have!)

Astro 101 Mini Grease Gun
Back to a more general purpose type grease gun. This mini grease gun will work beautifully on your chainsaw but is equally adept for greasing bicycle bearings or similar.
As with the Premium Grease Gun above, it seems that you have to sometimes use a (very) small drill bit or pin to create a hole for the grease to come out.
Alternatively sanding down the point until an opening becomes apparent is another option.
Despite this minor aberration, most agree this is a sturdy little tool that does the job well.

If there is a small hole towards the front part of the bar of your chainsaw then do yourself a favor and fill it with grease from time to time. A little grease goes a long way in ensuring that your chainsaw will give you long and trouble free service 🙂
