The New Kebtec 6 Inch Mini Chainsaw
The Kebtec 6 Inch Mini Chainsaw is a welcome addition to their 8-inch chainsaw offering.
While Kebtec are best known for their range of cordless pruning shears, they recognize that sometimes a little more fire power is needed when pruning branches or stems with diameters larger than 2 inches!
Hence the introduction of mini chainsaws to their range.
The good thing about this development is that Kebtec already have a wealth of expertise and experience in producing small battery driven power tools.
This has allowed them to enter the mini chainsaw market with a good idea of what works……and what doesn’t! That puts them ahead of the majority of their competition in this market segment!

The Good Bits
Below are the features that should push this Kebtec chainsaw towards the top of your “consider purchasing” list!
Brushless Motor
As technology advances it becomes included in the mainstream. Brushless electric motors are a case in point. They are far more powerful, efficient, longer lasting (and quieter) than the more conventional brushed motors.
So a brushless motor is really a no brainer when it comes to powering a mini chainsaw nowadays.
2 Batteries Supplied
Two batteries supplied up front beats only one being supplied for 2 reasons:
– You can double your work time by having a fully charged one on standby to use after the first one runs out of charge. You can then put the depleted one on the charger and carry on working!
– Mini chainsaw batteries are not always easy to come by. This should not be a problem with Kebtec as they produce their own batteries.
Battery Bonus: The tool/battery interface on this Kebtec will allow you to use Makita batteries as well!!
Automatic Oiler
Chainsaw bars and chains need to be oiled. Even small battery powered chainsaw bars and chains.
So its useful to have a mini chainsaw that has an inbuilt oiler that does this for you. The alternative is carrying around a small bottle of oil with you and manually applying the oil to the bar and chain at regular intervals.
That’s not a very efficient way to work.
A few reminders about chainsaws and oil.
Oil will leak out if you store the chainsaw incorrectly. Best advice is to drain the oil before you put your saw away.
It will also leak oil if you put too much oil in the oil reservoir. And by too much we don’t mean filling it up! Try filling it one third first and see how you go with that.
Storage Case & Scabbard
When you have a cordless tool that comes with 2 batteries, a charger, a scabbard, spare chain and the like, it’s nice to be able to keep that altogether in one place.
And so a storage case becomes more than a “nice to have”!
This is especially true if you travel with your mini saw. Going camping? Heading across town to help someone prune something?
A storage case just makes that so much easier. It’s really just pick up and go!
And the scabbard? Just protects you from those sharp little edges on the chain which might attack you when you least expect it 🙂
Extension Pole
While the extension pole is sold separately, the ability to attach a mini chainsaw to an extension pole has obvious benefits.
The Other Bits
These are features that could be good or bad, depending on your point of view and what you need the mini chainsaw to do. Alternatively, it might be a feature that is just average and perhaps doesn’t add any “wow” factor to the package on offer.
Chain Speed
The quoted chain speed is 7.5 meters per second. It’s not slow, but it’s not super wow either.
However, this is really not a deal breaker. It’s more of an observation that you may be mildly interested in.
The saw will happily do what it’s designed to do with this chain speed!
Hand Guard
Unlike the Kebtec 8 inch mini chainsaw which has a bare trigger, the Kebtec 6 inch mini chainsaw has quite a large hand guard around the trigger.
You can see the difference between the 2 designs in the pictures on the left.
You will also appreciate the benefits or problems associated with the two types of design.
On the safety front, a hand guard will obviously offer protection to the trigger and hand. It will prevent foliage interfering with the trigger and help prevent twigs and branches from scratching your hand.
The downside of a trigger guard, especially one this size, is that it substantially enlarges the foot print of the tool and stops it from operating in those small, tight spots where mini chainsaws come into their own.
How much of a help or hindrance is this feature?
It will depend on how and where you would normally use this piece of equipment.
And Finally
This Kebtec is, at the time of writing, fairly new on the market. Joe Public has yet to mistreat, abuse and use it in any great numbers so no inherent weaknesses have yet been exposed or postulated.
However, as noted before, Kebtec are not new to producing good quality small battery driven tools. it would be unlike them to produce anything that was substandard and not up to the task for which it is designed!
But if in doubt, you can can compare it to other 6 Inch Mini Chainsaws with a Brushless Motor
