Lets face it, a chainsaw with a 4 inch bar is a very small chainsaw! It could easily be regarded as little more than a fancy chainsaw toy.
They are small and light and so don’t stand up well when asked to do something they are not designed to do!
Having said that, the best 4 inch chainsaw can be oh so useful and effective around the house and garden. Trimming small branches and plant foliage, some DIY woodwork, not to mention taking away on camping or road trips.
So although they are small and sometimes a bit fragile, a mini 4 inch chainsaw can be incredibly useful and effective if treated well and used properly.

This Saker 4 inch mini chainsaw is a very popular option in the mini 4 inch chainsaw market segment.
As with the vast majority of these very small and light chainsaws, it is NOT powered by a brushless electric motor (maximum chain speed of 5m/sec) nor does it have an oil reservoir that will oil the chain as you work.
BUT, it

– has a storage or carry case
– includes a small oil bottle for oiling the bar and chain as you work with it (No oil though – you will need to buy your own Bar & Chain oil)
– is also available in pink!!
– A real bonus is that Saker replacement chains for this 4″ mini saw are readily available
As with all 4″ mini chainsaws, it is small and light. In other words, it has its limitations and you need to be realistic about what you can expect this mini saw to accomplish.
Having said that, if you use it within it’s limitations, it is a wonderful tool!

Motor: This is not a brushless motor but rather a normal copper wire electrical motor. However it still achieves a chain speed of 6 m/sec which is up there with the best in this segment.
At 1kg this is one of the lightest 4 inch chainsaws on the market. Note however that it isn’t self lubricating, so you need to lubricate the chain yourself.

The issue with this saw seems to be the batteries/battery charger (variable performance or not charging) and the quality of the plastic body moulding, especially around the air vents.
Having said that, those do not seem to be a consistent factor, so it is probably a quality control issue at the factory.
So for the most part, it will do the job as long as you don’t expect too much of it and work in short bursts to allow the engine to cool down. On Amazon (at the time of writing) it had a 4.5 star rating with just over 1300 people having rated it – so it would seem that most (verified) purchasers were pleased with its performance.

This is a “traditional” 4- inch mini chainsaw that is included because it has a solid track record at a reasonable price.
Don’t expect miracles from this little power tool but if you don’t push it to do work it was not designed for, it will deliver solid results.

Cons
– They have limited capabilities that need to be respected in order for them to work efficiently. These include only cutting small diameter branches (2 inches diameter and smaller is ideal. Up to 3 inches every now and again)
– Prone to over heating if used for too long. Short bursts of activity and then a short “rest” are ideal.
– No auto lubrication for the vast majority of them. You will need to carry a small bottle of Bar & Chain oil with you and apply frequently. Do this even if the manufacturer says you don’t need to oil the bar & chain!!
– Small but deadly. Don’t underestimate the damage that small chain could do to you. They are not a toy so treat them with the same respect you would a big chainsaw!
