Which Bei and Hong Mini Chainsaw is Worth Buying?

Bei & Hong vs Bei & Hong Mini Chainsaws!

Bei & Hong Chainsaw

Which Bei & Hong Chainsaw is best for you?

If you are considering buying a Bei and Hong mini chainsaw then it would be a good idea to first be aware of the various options available to you.

And believe it or not, this can be pretty confusing because they have an ever evolving and changing selection of mini chainsaws available on the market at any given time!

And even though they are all well priced – below the $100 mark –  comparing their benefits to try and sort out which one would be best for your needs can be pretty bewildering.

So how best to approach this conundrum?

If we look at the category of small or mini chainsaws (with bars up to 8 inches and designed to be operated with one hand), then perhaps the most important feature that trumps just about everything else is being powered by a brushless motor.

You can read more about why that is such an advantage here.

So we will group these into Bei & Hong chainsaws powered by a brushless chainsaw, and Bei and Hong mini saws powered by a normal copper electric motor.

At the end we will point out some common problems across the various options.

But first lets take a quick look at each of the Bei & Hong mini chainsaws.

Bei & Hong Chainsaws with a Brushless Motor.

Bei and Hong have a number of options equipped with brushless motors

Top of the range?

Unfortunately they don’t seem to (apparently) give their various model options easily distinguishable product designations so the easiest way to identify them for you is to use pictures.

So on the left is their 800W brushless motor option that can push the chain along at a claimed 26.24 ft/sec or 8m/s which is not bad for a chainsaw of this size.

It is powered by 21V batteries of which 2 are supplied.

At the moment, this is their top of their range model.

B&H chainsawThis is an upgraded version of their 2022 model which had issues with the motor smoking when under duress.

They claim to have fixed that issue by upgrading the electric motor to a brushless motor which is good news.

This is a 20V system and comes with two 2Ah batteries supplied.

The claimed chain speed is 19.2 ft/sec or 5.85 m/s which is OK but a significant drop on the first model featured above.

Bei & Hong Saws with Normal Brushed Motors

An upgraded 550 Watt normal copper electrical motor drives this tool.

A top chain speed of 19.2 ft/sec (5.85 m/s) is the same as the upgraded 2022 brushless motor version above and the package of “extras” offered is very similar.

However this model lacks an automatic oiler which means you have to oil the bar & chain manually.

It is also offered in black for those who would prefer that to the yellow option pictured here.

Upgraded normal electric motor mini chainsaw
This is also an upgraded 2023 model.

They have improved the power of the normal non brushed electric motor to 775 Watts and claim to have improved the oil delivery system.

Not everyone agrees with that claim – see more about this under “common problems”.

There are also 2 color options. A yellow option as well as the blue one depicted here.

Then to complicate things a bit further, There is also a an option that comes with only ONE battery. Everything else is the same.

This is, at the time of writing, about $30 cheaper than the package with 2 batteries.

However, think very carefully before choosing this option.

Two batteries are always better than one and finding spare or extra Bei & Hong batteries to purchase on their own is pretty difficult at the best of times.

Then you have this version which, believe it or not, is also available in PINK.

The main difference with this option is that there is no incorporated oil reservoir in the design.

You therefore have to remember to oil the bar and chain manually to ensure they stay lubricated and work optimally.

Common Complaints about Bei & Hong Chainsaws

Probably the most common operational complaint involves the inbuilt oiling systems. Mostly that they are difficult to refill and don’t work very well.

To be fair, this is a common complaint in many makes/brands of these small 4-6 inch mini chainsaws, One reason for this is undoubtedly the size of the tool. They are pretty small which makes finding a place in the design for a functional oiler is difficult.

The second most common complaint is the lack of response from customer services when things go wrong. However, there is not universal condemnation as some people have experienced top notch, timely customer care responses that have resolved their issue!

These widely differing experiences are also not unique to Bei & Hong and unfortunately it seems to be a case of pot luck. Some you win, some you lose!

Is there a warranty for these Bei and Hong Mini Chainsaws?

Bei & Hong offer a 1-year warranty which covers any manufacturing defects or malfunctions that occur during “normal use”.

It does does not cover damage caused by misuse, neglect, or accidents.

That is pretty normal as far as a warranty goes.

However, as with all of these small electrical tools, it is quite difficult to prove what is a defect/malfunction and damage incurred through misuse.

Suffice to say, at this price point, don’t rely too much on a warranty.

These Bei & Hong chainsaws are definitely on the cheaper side of mini chainsaws on the market today.

In many respects, you get what you pay for.

Having said that,  Bei & Hong  has been selling mini chainsaws for a long time now and they remain a popular option for odd jobs around the house, taking on camping trips and so on.

So despite the odd hiccup, they have a pretty long and solid track record of supplying cheap mini chainsaws to the market.

They would not still be in business if their products were not worth having!
