Where are the Big Cordless Chainsaws?

Why are big cordless chainsaws not as plentiful in terms of options available in the market as are small cordless chainsaws?
This is perhaps because when you need or want a chainsaw with a 16 or 18 inch bar, a big battery operated chainsaw is not the first thing that comes to mind. Most of us would likely first look at the vast array of gas powered chainsaws available.
Indeed, most gas driven chainsaws are still more powerful than their battery driven competition. However, the performance gap between the 2 options continues to close pretty quickly.
The reality of the situation is that very little development is being done on the gas guzzling power units used in chainsaws. But quite the opposite applies to electrically driven power units.
The other reasons for increased interest in electrically powered chainsaws are obvious:
- electrical chainsaws are environmentally cleaner and quieter
- they have no starting issues
- they vibrate a whole lot less than their gas equivalents, making them easier to work with.
- no need to carry gas around with you for constant refilling

Hasn’t been around as long as the Greenworks DigiPro so not so many verified purchaser reviews.
However Dewalt have a solid
It also features a 18 inch bar and a brushless motor but weighs slightly more than the Greenworks.
It certainly gets the job done – ” It has been amazing. I’ll never go back to struggling with a pull start gas powered saw ” again just about sums this big electrical chainsaw!

Even newer to the market but nevertheless with 82% of reviewers (remember these are actual users of this item) giving it a 4 or 5 star rating, it’s right up there with the best of them.
Besides the benefit of having a brushless motor, this electric chainsaw is one of only a few (so far) that features an inbuilt chain sharpener – a big bonus point!!
Almost all reviewers (users) are extremely happy with this saw – from comments on how well it is made to great satisfaction with how it works
Greenworks PRO 18-Inch 80V Cordless Chainsaw
As you know we are a big fan of brushless motors because they offer so much more in terms of power and longevity and this Greenworks has one – so that is a major plus.
Greenworks claims it is as powerful as a 45cc gas engine which is supported by quite a few reviewers.And it does that minus the noise, pollution and with greatly reduced vibration.
Throw in automatic chain tightening and an automatic chain oiler together with a very user friendly weight of only 10.8 pounds (13.7 with battery) and you can’t really go wrong!
There are some reports of the oil reservoir leaking. But that’s a fairly normal occurrence across chainsaw makes and types unfortunately.
Chain speed is reportedly 15m/s (49fps or 984 fpm) which is not too shabby!
