A Selection of Mini Chainsaws with 2 Batteries
Why would anyone want a mini chainsaw with 2 batteries?
Surely one battery should be able to do the job?
Its not like someone is going to march off into a forest for the day with a mini chainsaw and only come back at dusk having chopped down half a forest! 🙂
That’s not what mini chainsaws are designed for, and generally, that’s not the sort of person who would buy one.
But a battery driven chainsaw with two batteries does in fact make sense in the right circumstances. So lets look at some possible reasons for buying a mini chainsaw with an extra battery.
Reasons For 2 or More Batteries
If you are in a rush or know what you are looking for then you can skip straight to a great selection of mini chainsaws with 2 batteries
Otherwise, if you want to look at this subject in a bit more depth, read on.
There are probably 2 main reasons why mini chainsaw manufacturers offer two batteries when you purchase their mini chainsaw.
First Reason for Having Two Batteries.
These are small tools and so the batteries that attach to them are correspondingly small and have limited power and endurance! Although battery technology is finally advancing at an ever increasing pace(thanks Tesla et al), the fact remains that the battery technology used with these tools is somewhat limited.
So the supplied batteries may only be able to run for 20 – 40 minutes and will then need to be recharged. The recharging typically takes anything from one to three hours.
So the first idea would be that an extra battery would increase your working time by being able to replace the depleted battery with a fully charged one. You then carry on working with the replacement battery while you start re charging the first one.
Its a practical and logical solution to the current limited battery capabilities.
Second Reason for Having 2 Batteries.
How do you make your mini chainsaw more attractive to buyers than your competitors’ mini saw?
After all, as we have said, they are small tools so there is only so much you can physically add on or design into them.
The answer then is to increase the attractiveness of the package! One way to do this is by adding more extras to the overall package in the hope that these extras will persuade the buyer.
A second battery is a good incentive.
A Possible Pitfall?
So it makes sense to have 2 batteries so that you can work for longer. And it makes sense to get more bang for your buck by getting more add on useful goodies in the package you buy.
What could possibly go wrong?
Um, well…..actually….losing sight of what you actually want the chainsaw for and what the mini saw itself offers.
Comparisons
To illustrate the point about the importance of considering the mini chainsaw in your buying decision, lets compare the 2 mini saws on the left.
The green one is the SOYUS 4-inch bar mini chainsaw that comes with a whole bunch of extras as a package deal. Not only do you get the saw, but also 2 batteries, 2 extra chains, a charger, a pair of safety glasses and so on.
Now compare that with the yellow Omola 4-inch bar mini chainsaw that has a far smaller “package” on offer.
So, no extra battery, no extra chains, and no safety glasses (it does come with a charger which is not shown).
And at the time of writing it is on the market for a whole $40 MORE than the SOYUS!
So what gives? How is that possible?
So Why is This?
The answer lies mostly in what the Mini Chainsaw itself offers!
Lets look at why the Omola is just an all round better tool – but for a price.
First off. It has a Brushless Motor That means the motor is more powerful, more efficient, quieter and likely to last a whole lot longer than a normal copper wired electric motor.
The battery. The Omola comes with one 4Ah battery while the SOYUS comes with 2 x 2Ah batteries (or 2000mAh as they list them – perhaps a marketing ploy to make bigger than they are??).
The advantage the Omola has here is that it accepts Makita batteries. Makita is a well known brand name in traditional chainsaws which makes getting replacement or extra batteries all that much easier.
Back to the differences. The Omola has a built in oiler that oils the bar and chain automatically as you cut. This is an essential part of using any chainsaw as it lubricates the interface of the bar and chain.
Without that they heat up pretty quickly leading to reduced cutting performance.
If there is no self oiler, then you need to add oil manually to the bar and chain yourself. Not the end of the world but not ideal either.
To Conclude
So as you can see, the question can be somewhat more complicated than a straight 2 batteries vs 1 battery shoot out.
While acquiring a mini chainsaw with 2 batteries is not a bad idea, one should keep in mind why you want to buy a mini chainsaw in the first place!
