Which Chainsaw Carry Bag?

A chainsaw carry bag is a useful addition to have on hand.
They are not only great for transporting chainsaws but also for storing them between jobs.
Some bags are made for specific brands, while others are more generic and are aimed at any brand of chainsaw.
They can be made to accommodate a range of bar sizes e.g. 12″ to 16″ bars or for a specific bar size e.g.an 18″ bar.In reality, if the dimensions are OK, then any chainsaw will fit into any chainsaw bag or case.
There are even carry cases for mini chainsaws! (see further down for those!)
There are a variety of types of chainsaw carry bags/cases available to you as outlines below.
Heavy Duty Cloth Chainsaw Bags
Most of these cloth bags are made in the basic shape of a chainsaw with bar attached. Being made of cloth they are fairly flexible in what you can fit into them – in addition to a chainsaw.
Buyers Tip.
They might have some flexibility width wise but not so much length wise. In other words you are probably not going to have much luck trying to shoe horn an 18 inch bar chainsaw into a bag designed for up to a 14″ bar chainsaw.
So measure up the chainsaw and compare to the specs of the bag before you lay out any money.
Also be aware that these are made of a heavy cloth, your chainsaw chain is made of sharp steel! If the two meet in an uncontrolled manner, you can be sure that the bag is going to come of worst.
So try to treat the bag with a degree of care and it should do the job for you!
Weak Points of Cloth Chainsaw Bags
Irrespective of the material the chainsaw bag is made of, it’s the zipper and stitching that are the weak points.
Unfortunately the quality of the zips and stitching can vary even from item to item of the same brand and design.
Not ideal, but probably several times cheaper than measuring up your chainsaw and buying all the material and making it yourself! Or getting someone else to make it for you.
Hard Body Chainsaw Carry Cases
The two carry cases pictured here (click on the pictures for more details) are Husqvarna cases designed for a variety of their chainsaws.
However, they will accommodate any make of chain saw if the dimensions are correct.
These are obviously far more robust than the heavy cloth variety and, naturally, also more costly.
No stitching or zips to worry about and the chainsaw is well protected by a double wall of high density polyethylene!
Also, these type of chainsaw carry cases are often designed to include places for other chainsaw essentials such as oil and sharpening files. In other words a place for everything and everything in its place.
They are a neat and tidy all in one solution for transporting or storing a chainsaw.
Crate Type Chainsaw Carry Cases
You can buy one of these or, if you are that way inclined, you can make one out of a normal plastic crate or storage box.
Of course you need to make sure of your basic measurements to ensure the main body of the chainsaw fits!There is plenty of space for storing other bits and pieces which is an added bonus.
Storage Trunks
Another option is to buy a general purpose storage box like the Plano heavy duty storage box pictured here.
Of course you will need to check the dimensions to ensure that the entire chainsaw fits inside the storage box.
Advantages to this type of option are:
- chainsaw completely shielded from the environment and prying eyes!
- lots of spare storage space around the chainsaw
- convenient for carrying in a motor vehicle/storing on a shelf
Disadvantages include:
- Heavy
- Shape makes it awkward to carry any distance in rough country
Mini Chainsaw Carry Bags
Chainsaws come in all shapes and sizes nowadays. Common mini chainsaws have bar lengths from 4 inches to 8 inches with 6-inch bar mini chainsaws perhaps being the most popular!
As their name indicates, these chainsaws are much smaller than the common chainsaw and thus lend themselves to being very portable.
Some mini chainsaws are sold with carry bags but many are not.
Mini chainsaw carry bags can vary from a simple belt bag to something bigger and more complex in design.
So there are lots of options on offer for every size chainsaw on the market!
You just need to decide which option fits your needs!
