Top Rated Cordless Pruning Shears
Which are the top rated cordless pruning shears on the market? There are countless cordless pruning shears available to choose from which doesn’t make the process any easier.
Having said that, below is a selection of the best cordless pruning shears that the market (i.e. buyers) has pegged as top of their class.
We have selected 5 top rated cordless pruning shears with each one being slightly different from the others in either price range, or maximum diameter branch they can cut through, or motor power, or accessories etc.
And if you click on the link or picture of each one, you will be able to see some of their direct competitors.
So lets look at the best electric secateurs available.
The Swansoft Electric Pruning Shears
These might be the best electric pruning shears out there. They have several attributes which put them right up there in the pecking order.
To get started, here are the vital statistics:
Weight: 2.8 pounds or 1,3 kg
Cutting Diameter: 1.5 inches (3.8cm)
Blade: SK5 steel
Battery & Charger: 2 x 2aH rechargeable batteries. The charger can charge both batteries at the same time.
Motor: Brushless electric motor
Extension pole: An option but sold separately
OK so lets take a look at some of the factors that makes the swansoft electric pruner such a great tool.
Firstly, a brushless electric motor. In my opinion you need a VERY good reason to buy any electric tool that doesn’t have a brushless motor.
The metallurgical composition of the blade. Sk5 steel is ideal for the job. SK5 is a carbon steel that is extremely hard giving the blades great edge retention and toughness. In other words, these blades wont buckle or dent easily and will retain their sharpness for a decent length of time.
The downside of SK5 is that being so hard, it does take a little more effort to sharpen the blade when you feel it needs sharpening. Also, being carbon steel, it is not immune to corrosion, so take care to wipe clean and store dry after using them.
An extension pole option. An extension pole is a great addition to have if you have trees in your garden that you like or need to prune. On the other hand, it is an extra cost if you don’t need it.
So, in my opinion, having the option but not being required to spend money on one as part of a “package deal” is a win!
Cutting ability. Don’t get your finger(s) in the way! Cuts like a beast and for long periods. Do remember though that as with almost all battery operated tools, its cutting ability will decline as the battery gets low on juice.
Batteries. Lithium Ion and they give you two of them – you are good to go for several hours!
Cost: Not the cheapest. But nowhere near the most expensive either. Handily placed in the price range for cordless electric secateurs but armed with superior materials and options

Prunarbo Electric Hand Pruner
This one is a little smaller than the Swansoft above and is mostly aimed at the amateur gardener who hasn’t got a huge and variable amount of pruning to do.
Despite that, it has some great features and solid basics in place.
Weight: approx. 1,9 lbs (0.9 kg)
Cutting diameter: 1 inch (2.5cm)
Blade: CK5 high carbon steel
Batteries: 2 x batteries and charger
Motor: Brushless Motor
So above we have covered the (mostly positive) qualities of the CK5 steel. Also, the brushless electric motor gives this tool a big performance boost.
Price wise it is towards the lower end of the cordless pruning shears market segment but this is more a reflection of size (i.e. small) than quality and performance.
If you are an avid gardener that just needs the load taken off your hands and fingers when you prune your garden plants, then these should be a serious contender.
To summarize: smaller, lighter, less powerful than the Swansoft, but ideal for the average gardener. Oh, and cheaper!

Ebbcowry Electric Pruning Shears
So these pruning shears have all the right stuff as we have highlighted above.
This includes:
Brushless Motor
Carbon steel blades
2 x batteries and charger
And it even has a few extra goodies like a spare blade and a portable storage box.
The REAL difference between these cordless pruning shears and the Prunarbo shears is their ability to cut branches up to 1.2 inches (30mm) in diameter.
That doesn’t sound much, but in the world of garden plants and pruning, 5mm or 0,2 inches can be quite significant.
So that ability attracts a bit of a premium in the pricing department, so you will pay a bit more for these. You might have to go outside and take a stroll around your garden to decide if this is important or not.

A Bonus Selection
OK, so because this is a popular price range, here is an alternative option to the Ebbcowry tool.
Compare the Ebbcowry to the Dragro Electric Pruning Shears
The difference between the two is in the detail of what comes with it. You will need to decide what is important for you, and what isn’t!
LIGO Electric Pruning Shears
So here we go way down market price wise.
But they are still a pretty good option if they meet your pruning requirements.
A very basic tool which has a max cutting diameter of 0.5 inches or 13mm.
Only one battery and a standard electric motor.
So this is a very basic example of battery operated pruning shears but it still gets the job done if the job is basic pruning of small plants.
Its big advantage – price! This comes in at just over half the cost of the next cheapest tool on this page.
Of course price is rarely everything and generally you get what you pay for. However, in this case that does not mean an inferior product. It just means you shouldn’t expect it to have the capabilities or power of the rest of the top rated tools on this page.

Top of the Range Kebtek Professional Electric Pruning Shears
So lets go to the top end of the scale!
The kebtec professional pruning shears are the type of tool you reach for when you get into heavy duty pruning.
So needless to say, it is equipped the a brushless motor and the blades are SK5 Carbon Steel.
The most important differential here is the diameter branch these can deal with which is a sizeable 1.57 inches or 40mm.
And it can keep doing that for up to 6000 times on the battery power provided.
Add to that 500W of power and an inbuilt automatic overload protection system and this is a very capable and robust tool that should last you for a long time.
Negatives? Well they are made in China and thus, unsurprisingly, the instruction manual is really hard to follow. A fact of life unfortunately and applies to all the others as well – just not at this price!
