Why Battery Operated Loppers?
There are a number of valid reasons why battery operated loppers are a good choice for casual chainsaw users.
On the left you will see three different battery powered Loppers marketed by 3 different brands. They all operate on the same principle more or less.
(Click on each picture to find out more about that particular lopper)
They are also all more or less the same price if you compare apples with apples.
To clarify. You can buy the Black & Decker as a bare tool (no battery etc). This will make that purchase cheaper than either the same tool or one of the others with battery and charger included.
So lets get back to the idea of chainsaw loppers.
What is their place in the wider offering of possible chainsaws you would consider buying?
And why would a lopper be a good choice?
Reasons for Buying A Tree Lopper
Safety Considerations
One of the major reasons for buying a lopper is the fact that the rotating cutting chain is not exposed. This a huge safety consideration.
It is particularly true for people who do not often use chainsaws or are scared of using one because the exposed spinning chain is too intimidating.
A further safety consideration with battery loppers is that they also dispense with the need for having an electrical power point and an extension cord.
This means that the operator can focus entirely on the job at hand and not worry about anything else.
Size Limitations
Unlike with a chainsaw, the “jaw” structure of these chainsaw loppers automatically limits the size of branch you can tackle.
This can also be viewed as an added safety feature for new or nervous users. This is because it prevents them tackling a job that is bigger than the capability of the tool.
This is not the case with normal chainsaws. It is not uncommon to tackle jobs with a chainsaw that is inadequate for the job.
On the flip side, it is important to find out the maximum size of branch that your choice of lopper will cope with. This is because that is the size (diameter) you will be limited to when cutting.
All three of these cordless tree loppers advertise an “up to 4 inch” capability
Scissor Action
Many people like the “opposing forces” or scissor action capability of the lopper.
It gives you good control of the branch you are cutting as the jaws hold the branch from opposing sides.
This is different to a normal chainsaw where the pressure from the chainsaw on the branch is from one side only. This one sided pressure can result in a number of different and unpredictable responses from the branch.
These responses depend on many factors e.g. softness/hardness of wood, how fibrous is the wood, is the branch very rigid or very bendy and so on.
And again, this is another “hidden” safety feature that just adds one more reason why tree loppers, and particularly battery tree loppers, should be a consideration.
The Ultimate Garden Pruning Tool?
These battery operated tree loppers are the ideal tool for pruning trees and plants with branches that are up to 4 inches in diameter.
They are safe to use, easy to use, and are fast and efficient.
You can’t really go wrong with one.
Best cordless lopper? That you will have to decide 🙂
Or you could decide on something else entirely.
