7-Inch Mini Chainsaws are Rare but Useful.
For whatever reason, 7-inch mini chainsaws are hard to find.
While 4-inch bar and 6-inch bar mini saws are the most common, there are a few 5-inch bar mini chainsaws that are excellent.
However, below you will find one of the few 7-inch mini chainsaws available on the market today.
The Lagatuns
This mini saw (seen left) has a 7-inch bar. But it also comes with a 4-inch bar.
These two bars are interchangeable.
Is this a good idea?
The occasional switch from one to the other is probably okay but these are small tools with small components. Swopping them out on a regular basis would probably place undue stress on the components holding the bar in place.
And sooner, rather than later, something would give and that, in all likelihood, would be the end of your mini chainsaw as a functional tool.
However, if you want a 7-inch bar mini chainsaw then its easy to install the 7-inch bar and leave it at that!
So on with what this mini saw has to offer.
Pros
For starters, it is equipped with a brushless motor!
A brushless motor has so many advantages over a normal brushed motor. Having a brushless motor puts any cordless tool way ahead of the pack.
Another useful feature is the inbuilt automatic oiler. While it is a necessity that the bar and chain on any size chainsaw is kept oiled, an automatic oiler on a tool this size does come with its challenges.
Chief among these is oil leakage! All chainsaws that have any sort of self oiling system seem to leak oil!
To minimize this aspect you can do 2 things:
- Only fill the oil tank to one third of its capacity
- Store the tool in an upright position
Safety features include the following:
- A safety button that has to be pushed in at the same time as the trigger is activated. This prevents the saw being accidentally started by the trigger being depressed by e.g. a branch.
- A protective baffle that covers most of the top of the bar and chain that prevents sawdust and wood chips from flying into your eyes. This rotates upwards as you cut through any wood so does not interfere with your work.
And then of course the storage case. That is a very useful addition to the package offering. Having one place to put everything for either storage or transporting is very handy.
Cons
Well, not a lot of anything really. The oil leaking story is not specific to this mini chainsaw and is fairly easily dealt with.
Likewise, new chains stretching after a bit of initial use and jumping off the bar is a “normal” occurrence if you are new to chainsaws.
So not a bad option either.
In Conclusion
Well that’s about that as far as 7-inch mini chainsaws go. Not much on offer really, but its worth at least considering what a 7-inch bar could offer you that a 4 or 6 inch bar can’t.
